Senator Mark Leno's Ellis Act Changes Face First Hearing

Last Tuesday, Senator Leno's Ellis Act changes came before the Housing Committee in the State Senate for its first hearing. A coalition of SF Association of REALTORS®, SF Apartment Association, AsianAmerican-Voters.org and the Small Property Owners came together to organize over 120 small property owners to protest the changes to the Ellis Act and call upon state lawmakers to preserve homeownership.

Small property owners far outnumbered the legislation's proponents at the meeting, and the voice of homeowners were clearly heard in Sacramento. Unfortunately, the bill narrowly made it out of Housing Committee, and now heads to the Judiciary Committee for its second hearing.

SFAR will continue to work with our housing partners to preserve the Ellis Act and protect homeownership in Sacramento.
