First, let me say how honored and humbled I am to be representing members of the San Francisco Association of REALTORS® as the 2020 President.
As a second generation REALTOR®, my mother instilled in me the importance of local Associations. She also taught me that giving back to our Association is a responsibility. Each day that we practice real estate we use tools and resources provided by our Association. Without a strong and involved Association, it would be the Wild West of real estate as it was at the turn of the twentieth century.
Involvement by our members is the key to maintaining the strength and relevance of the San Francisco Association of REALTORS®. We are fortunate to have so many members participating in leadership and committees, as well as attending classes and events. I urge each of our members to get involved in some way this year. The rewards and benefits are significant. Until you have experienced it, you can't really know.
In 2013, one of my colleagues suggested that I join the MLS & Technology Committee at the Association since I was pretty tech savvy. I took his advice and in no time I was on the leadership path. I am grateful to our amazing CEO, Walt Baczkowski; our outgoing President, Nina Dosanjh; and our MLS and IT Director, Jay Pepper-Martens. Each of them exemplified what it means to be a leader - to seek out talented individuals, bring them into the fold, and help them see a path to leadership. I can't thank them enough for their support and encouragement. Each of us should keep this goal in mind as we enter into leadership: Bring people along with you. It's the most enjoyable part of the ride.
Many have asked what my agenda is for 2020. We have so many projects in the works today that will come to fruition this year. That said, the overarching message I would like to convey is one of cooperation and collaboration. "That is Who We R!" We are independent contractors who work together to do what is one of the greatest jobs in the world - to help people find or sell their homes. No matter your brokerage, you are an individual agent who works and lives by a code of ethics. Some have said that we aren't listening to the needs of the consumer. I disagree with that. We listen each and every day to our clients and we are constantly changing and striving to be better REALTORS®. Some say there is so much disruption in our industry. While that may be true, we, as agents, need to worry less about that and more about adapting to serve the best interests of our clients. Again, "That's Who We R!"
We have an incredible Board of Directors going into 2020 as well as talented members leading our committees. I am so proud and grateful to be working with all of you and I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
Best,
Marc Dickow
