RETURNING TO NORMAL - OPEN HOUSES AND BROKER TOURS

March 25, 2021

Returning to normal email 2

As San Francisco moves into the Orange Tier, we continue to engage our state and local government leaders on behalf of the REALTOR® community for a safe economic reopening.

STATE REGULATIONS UPDATE:
On the state level, OSHA and the Governor are, thus far, unwilling to alter our existing workplace regulations/requirements. The PEAD requirements et al. are all state mandated by CAL-OSHA. CAR has engaged with the Governor’s office and regulators on the subject multiple times and continues to do so.

The opening up of other professions and industries (for example, retail, dining and office space) is now very similar to the rules imposed on the real estate industry — limited attendance, limited capacity, face masks and periodic cleaning.

PROGRESS IS BEING MADE LOCALLY - AMENDING SAN FRANCISCO REGULATIONS:
On the local level, we are limited by the overarching state law. However, your San Francisco Association of REALTORS® leadership and staff are currently engaged with City and County officials, negotiating an expansion of the definition of a “showing party” to allow more people to safely visit a listed property at one time. The state law does NOT define “showing party.” Our local County guidelines currently limit showings to “no more than two persons from one household” accompanied by one REALTOR®.

Expanding the definition of “showing party” will streamline the showing and appointment process by allowing more persons in the property at one time, and will allow for a modest alternative to a broker’s tour.

Our Government Affairs staff is currently discussing these important changes with the Department of Public Health. There is a new leadership in the City departments who understands the need for economic recovery and working with the business community. Our goal is to plan a safe, responsible, and efficient timeline for the real estate industry as we recover from this pandemic.

We are hopeful. We are collecting ideas, feedback, and input from our members that we can use in our discussions with the Department of Public Health.

Please contact Jay Cheng (Deputy Director of Government Affairs) at SFAR if you have any suggestions, questions, or comments. Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
