Thanks to your advocacy and hard work, the San Francisco Association of REALTORS® had a spectacular set of accomplishments on the state and local level this Election Day!

In our statewide races:
• Proposition 33, which would have dramatically expanded rent control, lost by a wide margin. 60 percent of California voters voted against Prop 33. This is the third time that we have soundly defeated the expansion of rent control in California.
• Proposition 34, which would help stop extremist advocates from continuing to put on rent control expansion on the ballot, passed narrowly with 50.7 percent. CAR and SFAR are very much in favor of Prop 34, as it will end the divisive and expensive rent control fights on the statewide ballot going forward.

In our local races:
Daniel Lurie won Mayor with a resounding 55 percent majority, defeating incumbent Mayor London Breed. Daniel Lurie was one of SFAR’s three endorsed moderate candidates for Mayor and will bring new leadership into City Hall.

SFAR is especially proud of helping stop extremist Supervisor Aaron Peskin’s bid for Mayor, who would have been a deep setback for the city.

Two of our endorsed candidates, Bilal Mahmood and Danny Sauter, won their Supervisor races. Danny Sauter replaces termed-out Supervisor Aaron Peskin in District 3 (North Beach, Chinatown, Financial District) and Bilal Mahmood ousts incumbent Supervisor Dean Preston in District 5 (Haight, Tenderloin, Japantown, Western Addition). We’re thrilled that with these two victories, there are six votes on the Board of Supervisors for a wide range of policies to restore public safety, seriously address homelessness, and revitalize our downtown. We’re also thrilled that two of the most anti-housing and toxic Supervisors, Dean Preston and Aaron Peskin, have left City Hall.

Two of our endorsed School Board candidates, Jamie Huling and Parag Gupta, won their seats! We think that these candidates bring a tremendous amount of skill and leadership to help SFUSD turn around and address its financial and structural challenges.

Finally, Proposition M, which reforms the business tax code, passed resoundingly at 69.53 percent. Proposition M would exempt all small businesses who make less than $5m in gross receipts from business taxes, providing a major benefit to many of our members and brokerages.

We deeply appreciate everything you and your clients have done for San Francisco! Your work and votes this election cycle has helped create a brighter future for the city!
