Continuing Education Exemption for Long-Time Licensees – DRE

Exemption from the continuing education requirements for license renewal.

Requirements:

  1. 70 years of age or older
  2. have been “licensees in good standing” for 30 continuous years in California 

Applicant must submit and provide everything to the DRE. For questions, please contact –DRE Contacts 

“To request a continuing education exemption under B&P Code Section 10170.8, complete a Continuing Education Extension/Exemption Request (RE 213) and submit it with your application for license renewal. Include a copy of your birth certificate or driver’s license to verify your age along with supporting documentation which indicates the number of years you have been licensed. Please note that if you are applying for the exemption for the first time, your renewal application must be submitted by mail or in person. If an exemption has been granted, you may file your renewal application using eLicensing.” 

C.A.R. Honorary Member for Life 

 

Requirements for C.A.R. Honorary member for Life Status 

Becoming an honorary-member-for-life is a prestigious membership distinction. For members who are eligible and approved, their State Association dues shall be deemed paid-in-full for life! In order to qualify, the applicant must be:

1) An active C.A.R. member for a minimum of 25 years 

2) At least 75 years of age within the calendar year that you apply 

The next deadline for Honorary member for life applications is September 18, 2026.

NAR REALTOR® Emeritus Status

If eligible, please reach out to SFAR membership Department at membership@sfrealtors.com  

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify for REALTOR® Emeritus status, members must meet both of the following: 

  • 40 cumulative years of membership as a REALTOR® or REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® (or both) 
  • 1 year of service at the national level, including roles such as:
    Committee Member 
    – Officer or Director 
    – Federal Political Coordinator 
    – Global Ambassador or Global Coordinator to a country with an NAR bilateral partnership 
  • The application must be submitted by the member’s local association. 
  • Include documentation verifying 40 years of membership and 1 year of NAR-level service. 
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 
  • Upon approval by NAR’s Board of Directors, the dues waiver takes effect the following dues year.
