We’re thrilled to announce that our very own Community Affairs Director, Mary Jung, is being honored by State Senator Scott Wiener as the 2023 Woman of the Year!

She will be Senator Weiner’s honoree for “California Women Making Herstory 2023” and the 2023 District 11 Woman of the Year!

Mary Jung is a long-time San Franciscan with a deep roots in public service. She started her political organizing as a labor organizer with the 9to5 movement, where she organized women officer workers against sexual harassment, better pay, and economic equity. Mary was featured in the PBS documentary “9to5: The Story of a Movement”.

She’s gone on to serve as the Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party; Commissioner on the Civil Service Commission, Arts Commission, and Commission on Status of Women; and board member of Planned Parenthood NorCal.

She is the Executive Director of the Welcome Home Project, which helps San Francisco homeless families transition into permanent housing by providing them critical, brand-new household items like cookware, dishes, eating utensils, sheets, blankets, towels, pillows, and small kitchen appliances. Since 2015, Mary Jung has helped 10,236 individuals – including 2,931 children – settle into their new homes.
